Now only two documents are required to open a Smart digital bank account – an ID (NRC / Passport / Work permit / Resident Permit) and a TPIN number. According to the Bank, this further simplifies the process of opening a bank account on one’s Smartphone in just 15 minutes. In addition, this saves the client time and enhances their banking experience.

“We are very excited to simplify our banking even further. Now you only need 2 documents to open a Smart Banking digital account – a copy of one’s identity card (NRC or Passport or Work Permit or Resident Permit), plus your Tax Payers Identification Number (TPIN). Then you are all set to open that digital bank account in just 15 minutes. What’s more, you do not have to leave the comfort of your home or office or disrupt your lifestyle.”
He further added, “This is yet another key milestone on simplifying and widening access to financial services across Zambia.”
The new simplified process of opening a digital account comes with ZMW20, 000 limits for current accounts, and ZMW18, 000 limits for a savings account.
Standard Chartered launched the digital bank in June this year, with the backing of Pompi – the Bank’s Digital Bank Ambassador. Within 15 minutes and from the comfort of one’s smartphone, you can open an account without visiting a branch. A Visa Gold Debit card is delivered to you at a location of your choice within 48 hours of opening the digital account.
Several offers are available on the digital bank, including up to 25 liters of fuel vouchers for account opening and funding throughout the month of October.
Zambia’s first-ever digital bank is available by downloading the Standard Chartered mobile app – SC Mobile Zambia – for free on both Google Play Store and the App Store. The Zambian public is now able to seamlessly open an account and execute all of their banking activities right from their mobile device anywhere, anytime, and on-the-go.
