SIAVONGA District Commissioner Lovemore Kanyama was this morning admonished by speaker of the national assembly Dr. Patrick Matibini for threatening Siavonga Member of Parliament Darius Mulunda with arrest.
Kanyama is alleged to have questioned the presence of the Siavonga lawmaker during a visit to his office by the parliamentary committee on government assurance which was in the district to check on government projects.
Despite being told that the member of parliament was a member of the committee, Kanyama is said to have continued issuing disparaging remarks towards Mulunda and threatened to hound him out of the committee alleging that he would use the status of government projects to de-campaign the Patriotic Front.
In passing a ruling, Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini said Kanyama’s behavior towards Mulunda is in breach of the parliament act and conduct of the house.
Speaker Matibini said Kanyama’s conduct was demeaning and intimidating thereby affecting the performance of Mulunda’s duty as member of parliament.
Meanwhile, Kanyama unreservedly apologized to the house promising never to conduct himself in an irresponsible manner.
He alleged that Mulunda referred to him as a fool hence his reaction.
