CSPR Eastern province commends govt on re-opening of CBU

The Civil Society for Poverty Reduction CSPR in Eastern Province has commended government for considering the re-opening of the Copperbelt University CBU.
CSPR provincial coordinator Samuel Mbewe says the closure of CBU had put students in a desperate situation and compromised the sustainable development goal number 4 which talks about quality Education.
He says the move is recommendable one adding that it is practically impossible for a country to be talking about quality Education if learning institutions are closed.
Mr. Mbewe has however urged students to refrain from using violence as a means of expressing their views.
He notes that students should instead learn to resolve issues in an amicable manner.
Higher education minister Brian Mushimba yesterday announced that CBU which has been closed indefinitely for 4 months now, will be re-opened on the 19th of August 2019.
Mr. Mushimba stated that the decision to re-open CBU was arrived at after several consultations as well as the fear to have the institution lose its ranking.
